The Mystic Heart Welcomes You

The mission of this site, and the mission of The Mystic Heart Program at The Chautauqua Institution, is simple. We exist to serve those who seek the mystic experience that lies at the heart of all the world’s religions and great wisdom traditions. We are not here to promote any faith or path as superior to another but to introduce the essential truths and practices of these paths. We offer them side by side, as equally valid approaches to the divine in each of us.

We have taken the name “The Mystic Heart” from the work of Wayne Teasdale. His book by that name was part of the inspiration for our program. We honor his explication of a universal spirituality in the world’s religions. Our faith is in the capacity of every individual to experience a spiritual existence within. Here you will find lessons and techniques from many sources to help you discover your own mystic heart, as well as inspiring words from the saints and sages who have gone before. In addition, we’ve included specific information about scheduled classes, teacher bios, and links to other sites that may guide you still further.

Our programs are held on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution during its 9 week summer season. We charge no fees, but request a donation at the door to support our endowment fund. Morning meditations are held at the Welcome Center, weekdays from 7:15 to 8 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday Meditation Seminars are held at the Hall of Missions from 12:30 to 2 p.m. No pre-registration is required for either event.

In the “Your Story” section, we invite you to send us accounts of your own experiences on the way so we can share them with others. Finally, in “Feedback” send us your recommendations for other resources we can include here (books, CDs, images, other websites, etc.) as well as any other suggestions you may have.
